1. Attendance at Synagogue Services
Students must attend at least 25 services at Beth El Synagogue, a minimum of which 18 must be on Shabbat.
– Attendance at High Holy Days Services
Students must attend both Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Yom Kippur services. They must check in, and it is recommended that they assist in youth programming, but it most important for them to be in the building.
– Attendance at a minimum of 3 other community holiday services
Students are required to participate in services in at least 3 other Jewish ritual experiences. For example – Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim (Megillah Reading), Shavuot (Jewish ritual experiences outside of Shabbat and High Holy Days).
Attendance sheets and stickers will be available in Eadie’s office.
You must sign in, in order to receive credit. If you attend services at another synagogue, please email Eadie within the same week and let her know. It is YOUR responsibility to contact Eadie. She will not take information from your parents.
Attendance must be counted as services are accrued. If attending a USY convention, 4 Shabbat services will be credited. If attending a BBYO convention, 2 Shabbat services will be credited.
The following services qualify for this requirement:
|a.||Daily Services||7:00 am and 5:30 pm|
|b.||Weekday or Holiday services||At their posted times|
|c.||Shabbat evening services||Friday evenings at 6:00 pm|
|d.||Shabbat morning services||9:30 am on Saturday mornings*|
|e.||Sunday services||9:30 am and 5:30 pm|
|f.||Attendance at a USY Kallah or convention: a maximum of 4 services allowed per event with advisor verification|
|g.||Attendance at a BBYO convention: a maximum of 2 services allowed per event with advisor verification|
*Attendance must be for the entire service. If a Merit Scholarship Candidate also tutors during Jr. Congregation, Shabbat service attendance will be credited but arrival at services must be at 9:30 am. Arrival time if not tutoring must not be after 10:00 am.
2. Active membership in USY – Attend 65% of programs. By May 1, be sure to get certification from the Youth Director to turn in with all requirements.
3. Attendance at Beth El Synagogue Hebrew High School of Jewish Studies
80% of classes, including the Yom HaShoah High School program on Wednesday, May 1.
